Des Moines Yacht Club’s annual “South Sound Opening” is coming Saturday, May 8th, with a formal opening at 2pm, including a flag raising, introductions, and a “Rules of the Road” presentation by the Coast Guard.

WHERE: Des Moines Yacht Club, located at 22737 Marine View Drive South.

Dinner and Dancing begins at 6pm, with a social hour (BYOB, mixers provided), 7pm catered dinner by Caveman, and 8pm – Midnight, dancing to the music of Legacy.
Cost is $20 per person, and children under 12 are free (limit one per guardian).

Des Moines’ North Hill Community Center will be holding another “Irish Hooley” this Saturday, Jan. 30th from 5pm to 10pm.
If you don’t know what a “hooley” is, it’s:
An old-fashioned Irish term for a dance and party.
It includes dancing, singing, refreshments and live music.

This Irish gathering starts with a potluck supper, followed by a traditional Irish jam session; traditional Irish folk dances will also be taught (ceili’s & sets).
Families are welcome, with a suggested donation of $5/individual with $10 family max.

The Rotary Club of Burien/White Center is pleased to announce that this year’s major fundraiser will be a “Rockin Valentine’s Dinner and Dance” on Saturday, Feb. 13th at South Seattle Community College.
“Our community has not had a Valentines event in some time,” said Rotary Club spokesperson Tami Greene. “And our Rotary Club thought it would be a nice change of pace. So if you are looking for a new and fun way to celebrate this Valentine’s Day, please attend our dinner, dance, and auction. This event is not just for couples, single people will have just as much fun!”

Right now you may be asking “what the heck’s a hooley?” According to our sources, a hooley is:
An old-fashioned Irish term for a dance and party.
It includes dancing, singing, refreshments and live music.
Here are the details:

WHEN: Friday, Oct. 16th from 5pm to 10pm

This will be a family-friendly event starting with a potluck supper, followed by a traditional Irish jam session, and then traditional Irish ceili & set dancing (folk dances).
Suggested donation is $5 each with $10 family max to help offset the rent, utensil, plates, etc.
We’ll provide the plates, silverware, cups, etc. You bring a food item & your beverage of choice. Barley & wine are allowed. There’s an electric stove, refrig, coffee pot and microwave onsite.
The pot luck supper will be followed by an Irish jam session. All musicians are encouraged to join in. The noise will start winding down at 10pm to keep the neighbors happy as we have more events planned in the months ahead at this venue. ( happy neighbors = more events at their venue)
There’s plenty of parking on the south side of the bldg. If we overflow the gravel parking lot we can spill over into the grassy area there.
