The Waterland Blog is the only frequently-updated, totally-independent local website that delivers relevant Local News, Feature Stories, Event Listings, Videos, Photos, Webcams and more for the exciting community of Des Moines, WA.

It is Published and Edited by area resident Scott Schaefer, a three-time National Emmy Award winning Writer for “Bill Nye the Science Guy” (PBS/Disney) with over 23 years’ media experience in the Northwest and Hollywood, as well as a passion for educating and entertaining viewers.

A former Journalism major with many years of news experience, both as a reporter and photographer for local newspapers, Schaefer has been active in the online world since 1985. He built and launched his first website in 1996, and has since taught himself WordPress, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Final Cut Pro and other media tools that, put together, allow him to create and update rich media websites faster (and we think, more entertaining) than any staffed media outlet can.
