19-Year Old Man Charged with ‘Vehicular Assault’ for Saturday’s Des Moines Crash
Charges of Vehicular Assault and Reckless Endangerment were filed Thursday afternoon (Nov. 15) against Yichun Xu, who is accused in a collision in Des Moines on Saturday (read our previous coverage here).
Xu, 19, is charged with four counts of Vehicular Assault and two counts of Reckless Endangerment.
The defendant allegedly drove his car through a stop sign at a high rate of speed and collided with a car driven by a 25-year-old woman. The collision seriously injured the woman and three family members who were passengers in her car.
Passengers in the defendant’s car received minor injuries.
The defendant remains in jail.
A judge today granted a request by prosecutors to increase his bail to $2 million from the $500,000 set at first appearance.
Arraignment is scheduled for Nov. 29 at the Maleng Regional Justice Center.






WTH was he thinking traveling that fast on that side street? And for bail to be raised they are suspecting that he’ll bail out of the country. So sad that 4 innocent people were hit and could of been killed. There are college kids coming and going at that time also. He could of killed several people; I hope they don’t let him out on his own recognesses. He needs to stay in jail!!!
