This Saturday (June 2) will be Opening Day of the Des Moines Waterfront Farmers Market (we’re Sponsors and we’ll be there blogging live!) with a new location at the newly-remodeled North end of the Marina – and all this new room means there will be over 60 Vendors! Opening ceremonies will include South King Fire & Rescue presenting the US Flag unfurling from their ladder truck. Also present will be the World Trade Center 911 Artifact. Donations will be taken to help fund the permanent memorial that honors all the fallen fire fighters, police officers and paramedics. Other activities include classic cars on display, the Des Moines Arts Commission will be showcasing some local artists, radio station WARM 106.9 will be doing a remote broadcast and The Waterland Blog will be blogging live. “This will undoubtedly be our biggest and best season yet,” said Wayne Corey, Board President. “Helping us get there is the support from our wonderful sponsors, 32 in total and the never-ending work of our volunteers. When doing your shopping please support our sponsors who support us!” The new Boardwalk Bistro will also be open to enjoy your favorite market foods while watching all the boating activities. There are over eight prepared food vendors this year all in one area, including Fish & Chips and last year’s favorite Roving WoodFired Pizza. Don’t forget to bring your old musical instruments and donate them to the Highline Music4Life program (read more about that here). They will be collecting at the market June 2nd, 9th and 16th. The program refurbishes the instruments and donates them to the Highline School students who can’t afford them. Also supporting this program is the Rotary Club of Des Moines annual Poverty Bay Blues & Blues Festival coming Aug. 25th right next door from the market in the Beach Park. To keep up with all the current happenings at the market, please log onto the website and sign up for the e-newsletter that comes out once a week. You can also keep up on the activities by visiting one of our sponsors, The Waterland Blog (hey – that’s US!). If you would like to display the new Market Poster by local artist, Jenny Elliott, just email [email protected] and request. See you on The Boardwalk….]]>
