Gov. Gregoire Appoints Frederick Mendoza As Highline College Trustee

Attorney and community leader Frederick Mendoza (pictured above) has been appointed by Gov. Chris Gregoire to serve on the Highline Community College Board of Trustees.

After 30 years of public and private law practice, Mendoza founded Mendoza Law Center, PLLC in 2007.  Located in Normandy Park, Mendoza Law Center represents a wide range of local, regional and national companies and organizations in all aspects of business, real estate and litigation.

Prior to entering the private law sector, Mendoza served as King County deputy prosecuting attorney in the criminal and fraud divisions. He is a graduate of the University of Washington School of Law.

Mendoza is a dedicated community volunteer.   His current public service positions include serving as Board Member and Chair of The Seattle Lighthouse for the Blind, Vice Chair of the Washington State Public Stadium Authority and Member of the Board of Trustees of Highline Medical Center.  He was a founding member of the board of Highline Schools Foundation for Excellence.  He is an avid soccer fan who has served nonprofits such as Soccer in the Streets, Washington State Youth Soccer Association and Sounders Youth Soccer Foundation.  He coached the Highline High School Girls Soccer team for six years.

Mendoza joins current chair Edward Davila, M.D., vice chair Debrena Jackson Gandy and trustees Dan Altmayer and Bob Roegner on the college’s Board.

The Board of Trustees governs Highline and guides the direction of the college. They set college policies, hire the president and approve budgets. Trustees must reside in the college district’s boundaries.

Highline Community College was founded in 1961 as the first community college in King County. With approximately 18,000 students and 350,000 alumni, it is one of the state’s largest institutions of higher education. The college offers a wide range of academic transfer and professional-technical education programs, with day, evening and weekend classes. Alumni include former Seattle Mayor Norm Rice, entrepreneur Junki Yoshida, Washington state poet laureate Sam Green, and yes, even Waterland Blog Pubisher/Editor Scott Schaefer.
