The annual Chili Cook-Off fundraiser will be held at the Des Moines Farmers Market on Saturday, Oct. 29th, and YOU are invited to “come to compete or come to eat” at this great annual fundraiser.

“It is time once again to brag about your championship caliber chili,” said Wayne Corey. “The bad boys on the left will be out for revenge at the Des Moines Farmers Market annual chili cook-off to celebrate the end of the market season. It is the 5th annual Market Foundation fundraiser held on the last day of the market season. On Saturday, October 29th, 10-15 teams will once again fix up their best chili and anyone can taste them.”

The Annual Chili Cook-Off is the culminating event for the Farmers Market. It is a fun and delicious fundraiser that helps sustain the market and benefits the Des Moines Area Food Bank. Contestants and tasters come from all around South King County to enjoy this great event.

Chili is served on a “first come first served” basis starting at noon and is served until 2pm, or until it runs out. The “People Choice” award is chosen by the tasters, so be sure to arrive in time to try them all, and vote!

A $4 taster fee gets you: samples of chili, one piece of corn bread, sample bowl,
spoon, wet nap and a vote for your favorite. Check out the photos from last year’s wonderful event.

Every year a panel of judges is chosen and awards are given to first, second and third place. Possibly the most coveted award is the “Peoples Choice Award”, because as the name says, it’s the chili the people love the most. If you think you might have the best “Chili in Des Moines”, click to download the application and show your stuff here: http://dmfm.org.

The market will also be collecting donations for the Des Moines Area Food Bank and the Food Bank Backpack program, so if you are able, please bring a donation for them.

Bring on your recipe or your bib, you will have a good time and help keep two of Des Moines institutions remain strong. Complete team line-ups will be posted when the deadline for sign-up of October 15th passes.
