The long season is coming to an end at the Des Moines Farmers Market, with the grand finale this Saturday, Oct. 30th, which will also include the annual Chili Cook-Off.

This, its fifth year has been the most successful yet.

Wayne Corey, Board President, says:

“I attribute this to the ever dedication and unselfishness of the board members and the many volunteers who have worked tirelessly every Saturday to make this one of the best farmers market in South King County.”

This coming Saturday is the closing day and marks the fourth annual chili cook-off, this year featuring 13 teams competing for the bet homemade pot of mouthwatering, sweat on your forehead chili. Judges tasting start at 11am and tasting ($3) is open to the public at noon and runs until the pots are empty. The market will also be taking food bank donations.

As far as this year’s Chili Cook-Off, a $3 taster fee gets you:

  • Samples of several different kinds of chili
  • One piece of corn bread
  • Sample bowl
  • Spoon
  • Wet nap
  • And the chance to vote for your favorite!

Chili is served on a “first come first served” basis, starting at Noon and continuing until 2pm, or until it runs out.

The “People’s Choise” award is chosen by the tasters, so be sure to arrive in time to try them all and vote.

Also, if you are able to, please bring a non-perishable food donation for the Des Moines Food Bank.

So strap on your bib and come watch these local teams competing for the coveted trophy:
