Apartment Fire Leaves 20 Residents Homeless

A fire broke out around noon Friday (July 3rd) at an apartment complex located at 21639 19th Ave South in Des Moines, leaving 20 residents from 12 different families homeless.

Firefighters from three different departments battled the blaze for hours, and three units suffered fire damage while others were damaged by smoke and water.

Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the blaze, which didn’t injure any humans, but left one pet cat dead.
