Feel Strong? Washington’s Strongest Apple Contest Will Be Saturday, July 18th

The second annual “Washington’s Strongest Apple” strongman/ woman competition will be held Saturday, July 18th at 10am at the Des Moines Marina, where you’ll witness scenes like this:

This is a platinum-level sanctioned strength contest with the top three competitors in each category qualifying for Nationals.

Here are the details:

WHAT: Washington’s Strongest Apple strongman/woman competition

WHEN: Saturday, July 18th starting at 10am; rules meeting is at 9am

WHERE: City of Des Moines Marina, located at 22307 Dock Avenue

DIVISIONS:

• LW Women (140.4 lbs & below)
• MW Women (140.5-165.4 lbs)
• HW Women (165.5lbs & above)
• LW Men (175, 200, 231 lbs)
• HW Men (265, 300, SHW)

EVENTS:

• Tire flip (100 ft total distance), 60 seconds time limit
• Apollon Axle clean & press for reps, 60 seconds time limit
• Farmers Walk for 200’ (turn at 100 ft), 60 seconds time limit
• Keg loading (4-5 kegs must be loaded onto a 50” tall platform), 60 seconds time limit

Please note that all four events are tentatively planned to be run two at a time (events are subject to change).

AWARDS: Trophies will be awarded to each class winner.

ENTRY FEES: $75

ENTRY DEADLINE: Must be postmarked by June 18, 2009. Entries received after deadline is $100.

Last year they had 40 competitors compete in five events, and this year they anticipate more competitors and will feature four events.

This year the event happens during Des Moines’ 50th Birthday Celebration in conjunction with a car show & the Farmer’s Market opening (look for us Waterland Blog staffers in a booth at the market!).

Grant is a personal fitness trainer who recently participated in the Tower Climb in downtown Seattle to help raise money for Leukemia Research.
