Apartment Blaze Causes $80k in Damage

A fire in an apartment in the 21900 block of 30th Avenue South caused approximately $80,000 in damages to two units around 6am Wednesday morning (March 11th).

One person was treated for smoke inhalation, and the blaze was caused by an overheated oven, which was apparently being used to heat the apartment.

According to authorities, a family pet alerted three occupants to the fire, who all escaped safely, with one being treated on the scene.

Firefighters say that both units had smoke alarms, but neither were functioning because the batteries had been removed.
